10 Durga Puja walking routes in Kolkata for 2026, with distances and walking times
The hardest part of pandal-hopping isn't the walking. It's standing on a corner at 9 pm, deciding where to go next while the crowd moves around you.
These ten routes take that decision away. Each one starts at a metro station and visits a set of pandals in walking order. The distances are measured along real streets. I put them together for Pujo Map, and every route has its own page with the map.
They don't cover every pandal, and they aren't a ranking. Each is a group of pujos that sit close enough to walk in one evening.
How long is each route?
| Route | Starts at metro | Stops | Walking distance | Walking time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Maddox & Bakul Bagan | Jatin Das Park | 3 | 1.3 km | ~17 min |
| Dum Dum Park | Dum Dum | 4 | 1.9 km | ~25 min |
| Jorasanko | Girish Park | 4 | 2.6 km | ~35 min |
| Central Squares | Mahatma Gandhi Road | 4 | 3.3 km | ~44 min |
| Kalighat & Chetla | Kalighat | 4 | 3.3 km | ~44 min |
| Haridevpur & Barisha | Mahanayak Uttam Kumar | 4 | 3.4 km | ~45 min |
| South Core | Kalighat | 8 | 4.3 km | ~58 min |
| Old North | Shobhabazar Sutanuti | 8 | 5.6 km | ~75 min |
| Salt Lake Blocks | Karunamoyee | 5 | 5.8 km | ~77 min |
| Tala & Lake Town | Belgachia | 5 | 6.4 km | ~87 min |
What the numbers cover: the walk between the first and last pandal, at an even pace. They don't include the walk from the station to the first stop, time inside the pandals, or the queues. On Saptami, Ashtami and Nabami nights, the crowd can easily double the walking time.
Which routes are in North Kolkata?
Old North: 8 stops, from Shobhabazar Sutanuti
Kumartuli Park and Kumartuli Sarbojanin first, in the lanes where the city's pratimas are made. Then Bagbazar Sarbojanin, Sovabazar Beniatola, Ahiritola, Kashi Bose Lane, Hatibagan Sarbojanin and Nalin Sarkar Street Durgotsav. At 5.6 km it's a full evening, ending near Shyambazar metro.
Jorasanko: 4 stops, from Girish Park
Simla Bayam Samiti, Chaltabagan Sarbojanin, Pathuriaghata 5er Pally and Jorasanko Sadharan Durgotsab Samiti. These are old north-central paras close together, about 2.6 km in all. See the Jorasanko route.
Central Squares: 4 stops, from Mahatma Gandhi Road
Chorebagan Sarbojanin, then the three squares north to south: Md. Ali Park, College Square and Subodh Mullick Square. See the Central Squares route.
Tala & Lake Town: 5 stops, from Belgachia
Tala Prattoy, Belgachia Sadharan and Tala Barowari, then east into Lake Town for Laketown Natunpally Pradeep Sangha and Laketown Adhibashibrindo. At 6.4 km it's the longest route, and a different evening from the Shyambazar side. See the Tala & Lake Town route.
Dum Dum Park: 4 stops, from Dum Dum
Dum Dum Park Tarun Dal, Bharat Chakra, Tarun Sangha and Yubak Brinda, all inside one grid of blocks. At 1.9 km it's the second shortest. See the Dum Dum Park route.
Which routes are in South Kolkata?
South Core: 8 stops, from Kalighat
Deshapriya Park, Tridhara Sammilani, Ballygunge Cultural, Hindustan Park Sarbojonin, Singhi Park Sarbojanin, Ekdalia Evergreen, 21 Pally and Adi Ballygunge Sarbojanin. Eight pandals in 4.3 km means more pandals per kilometre than any other route here. See the South Core route.
Kalighat & Chetla: 4 stops, from Kalighat
The other direction out of Kalighat: Ashar Sangha, Chetla Agrani, 66 Pally Durga Pujo, and back to Deshapriya Park. You can do it before or after South Core on the same night. See the Kalighat & Chetla route.
Maddox & Bakul Bagan: 3 stops, from Jatin Das Park
Maddox Square, 23 Palli and Bakul Bagan Sarbojanin, all within about one square kilometre. At 1.3 km and about 17 minutes of walking, it's the shortest route, and a good one for older family members. See the Maddox & Bakul Bagan route.
Haridevpur & Barisha: 4 stops, from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar
Ajeyo Sanghati, 41 Pally and Vivekananda Park stand together in Haridevpur. Barisha Club is a ride away rather than a walk, and the 3.4 km includes that stretch. See the Haridevpur & Barisha route.
What about Salt Lake?
Salt Lake Blocks: 5 stops, from Karunamoyee
BJ Block, FE Block, FD Block, EC Block and AE Block. Salt Lake's planned blocks have wide pavements, so 5.8 km here is easier going than the same distance in the northern lanes, even on Ashtami night. See the Salt Lake Blocks route.
Can you start from where you are instead of the station?
Yes. On each route's page, "Start from" lets you begin at the metro station, at your own location, or at any stop on the route. Then "Show route" draws the walk, and play shows it in 3D before you set out.
If none of the ten fits, open pujomap.com, tap "Use my location", tick the pandals you want, and it orders them into your own route, shortest walk first.
Which route suits a short evening?
| If you have⦠| Try |
|---|---|
| Under half an hour of walking | Maddox & Bakul Bagan, Dum Dum Park |
| About 45 minutes | Jorasanko, Central Squares, Kalighat & Chetla |
| A full evening | South Core, Old North, Salt Lake Blocks, Tala & Lake Town |
Add the time inside each pandal and the queues on top. On the busiest nights, the shortest route can still take a couple of hours.
